Diabetic eye disease
Diabetic eye disease called diabetic retinopathy is a frequent occurence in diabetics. Not all diabetic retinopathy needs treatment but it starts off as mild and may progress to a vision threatening form called "proliferative diabetic retinopathy". It is important to recognize that this form initially exists with normal vision and it is at this stage that we aim to find it. It is usually better and easier to keep your vision good rather than to reverse the damage that has occurred.

It is important to have regular eye check ups at your ophthalmologist not at your glasses store. The ophthalmologist is specially trained and uses special eye drops to dilate your pupils to see into the back of your eyes to find diabetic retinopathy that needs treatment to keep your eyes healthy.

Early detection is of paramount importance and this must be done regularly usually every year, not just once.

Also important is to visit your doctor responsible for your blood diabetic care and to exercise regularly and eat a diabetic diabetic.

We offer diabetic eye assessments with dilated eye exams and special pictures of the back of your eyes as well as OCT scan to see your retina in cross section. To help to diagnose and treat your eyes.

Should you need treatment we offer intra-vitreal injection of Anti VEGF, and laser treatments.
